Programs
The Barn offers programs for children aged 2-12 with mild
to moderate physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities,
as well as other physical disorders such as cancer and arthritis.
Children with a range of health issues benefit from interaction
with the animals at The Barn.
BARN GUIDES
is a three part program developed to encourage leadership
skills. Through participation in this program children learn
about the history, nature, and care of specific animals; they
provide animal care including feeding, grooming, and exercising;
and then teach their able-bodied peers who come to the barn
for field trips. Children also have the opportunity to become
barn guides for our numerous adult visitors.
ADOPT A HORSE
is a program that uses miniature horses as assistance animals.
A child can select a favorite mini and return to the barn
on a regular basis to feed, groom, exercise, and learn about
the characteristics of the horse. A summer “horse show”
provides an opportunity to invite friends and family to come
and share in all that has been learned.
PHYSICAL THERAPY
can be conducted in the unique setting of The Barn. Physical,
occupational, and speech therapists can develop care plans
using the farm animals and barn environment for their interactions
with pediatric clients. Our staff is available to assist in
developing programs based on the specific needs of the child.
Our focus is on supporting the therapeutic goals of the service
professional.
INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMS
In many cases, the individual needs of the particular child
result in a personalized program of activities with the animals.
In this way, the special needs of each child are addressed.
EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIPS
are available for all children.
